Microsoft Access as a Front-end to MySQL

Steps:

  1. Download & install conenctor J: https://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/j/
  2. Download & install visual c++: https://www.microsoft.com/en-my/download/details.aspx?id=48145
  3. On the search - type ODBC
  4. Under User DSN > click Add > celect MySQL ODBC Unicode Driver > click Finish
  5. Connector/ODBC configuration > fill up the Data Source name, TCP/IP Server, Port, username, password, choose your database > test the conenction
  6. Open Ms Access & create blank database
  7. Click External data > click ODBC database > choose 'link to database source by creating a link table' & click ok
  8. Under 'Machine data source' - choose 'remote MySql_DB & click ok
  9. Select the table
  10. Now you can connect the MS Access to backend MySQL database..

 The Error may we have faces:-

odbc - call failed

Error: [Microsoft][ODBC Driver manager] The specified DNS contains an architecture mismatch between the driver and Applications (#0)
Why error above happen: because of different driver and platform -  for example; we are using 32-bit driver under 64-bit platform
How to solve: To manage a data source that connects to a 32-bit driver under 64-bit platform, use c:\windows\sysWOW64\odbcad32.exe. To manage a data source that connects to a 64-bit driver, use c:\windows\system32\odbcad32.exe.
